- Slippage

Decision affected: determine whether the quote is fixed or variable and what happens if the received ETH amount or execution price changes.

- Object: ETH is the coin you send; USDT is the token you expect to receive.
- Network or environment: select the supported deposit network for ETH and the supported delivery network for USDT. Do not assume that every pair, network, or direction is currently available.
- Action: create the exchange request, copy the generated ETH deposit address, and send the specified amount from your wallet. The wallet signs and broadcasts the Ethereum transaction; state-changing Ethereum transactions require a fee. [6]

A blockchain success status proves that a particular transaction executed on that network. It does not, by itself, prove that you selected the intended exchange request, recipient, asset contract, or receiving network. Those details must be compared separately.
Do not confuse these pairs
Coin and token
ETH is Ethereum’s native coin; USDT on Ethereum is a token. The practical consequence is that Ethereum gas is paid in ETH, not in USDT. If you later send Ethereum-based USDT from a self-custody wallet, that wallet will normally need ETH for the token-transfer transaction.
Asset and network
USDT is an asset, while Ethereum is one network on which USDT can exist. Choosing “USDT” without checking the network can produce an incompatible withdrawal. Confirm the network shown by the exchange and the network accepted by the destination wallet before paying.
Gas and exchange fee
Gas pays for execution on Ethereum. An exchange fee, rate margin, or withdrawal charge—if applicable—is part of the service’s terms. One does not automatically include the other. Review the request summary and your wallet’s gas estimate as separate items; do not invent a total by looking at only one screen.
Blockchain transaction and exchange request
The transaction is the on-chain ETH transfer identified by a TXID. The exchange request is the service record connecting that deposit to the requested USDT payout. A valid transaction sent to an expired, incorrect, or unrelated deposit address may not be matched automatically, even though the blockchain accepted it.
Address and private key
An address is shared to receive funds. A private key authorizes transactions and must remain secret. A seed phrase can restore control over the wallet and should never be entered into an exchanger, explorer, support chat, or unfamiliar website. Anyone who obtains a seed phrase or private key may gain control of the associated funds. [4]
Practical example: exchanging ETH for USDT
Suppose you want to send ETH and receive USDT in your own wallet. First, check whether the ETH-to-USDT direction and the required deposit and payout networks are currently available. The service supports ETH and USDT among its assets, but this does not mean every possible pair or network is available at all times.
Open the ETH-to-USDT exchange form, enter the requested amounts and receiving details, and read the displayed terms before creating the request. Verification requirements can depend on the operation and the outcome of compliance checks, so review the current requirements rather than relying on conditions from an earlier exchange.
After the request provides an ETH deposit address, compare it with the address shown in your wallet’s confirmation step. Also check the selected Ethereum network and the amount. Your wallet should display a gas estimate separately from the amount being sent. Never send the seed phrase or private key: the wallet needs them internally to authorize a transaction, but the receiving service does not need to know them.
Once the transfer is broadcast, save the TXID. In an Ethereum explorer, check that the destination address and transferred amount match the request and that the transaction was included successfully. Processing may begin only after the service’s required confirmations or finality condition. Avoid promising yourself a specific completion time because network demand, transaction settings, compliance review, and service processing can all affect the result.
Finally, verify the incoming USDT on the network selected for payout. Compare the receiving address and token information, not merely the ticker. If the output terms were variable, compare the actual received amount with the request conditions and any stated treatment of slippage.
How to recognize the terms in a wallet, request, or explorer
- In documentation: look for the exact blockchain or protocol name next to the asset. “USDT” alone does not define the transfer route.
- In a wallet: distinguish the transfer amount from the estimated network fee. On Ethereum, the fee is paid in ETH.
- In an exchange request: identify the deposit asset, deposit network, payout asset, payout network, deposit address, receiving address, quote type, and status. Labels vary, so rely on their meaning rather than expecting one fixed interface.
- In an explorer: search by TXID and check the status, sender, recipient, amount, block information, and gas data. A transaction receipt is unavailable while a transaction is still pending; once included, it can report success or failure and gas used. [7]
- In security prompts: an address may be shared for receiving, but a seed phrase and private key must remain private. Requests for either secret are a warning sign, especially on pages reached through unsolicited messages. [4]
